Half pipe coil jacketed glass lined reactors are widely used in chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, dye, pesticide, and food industries. Compared with conventional jacketed glass lined reactors, the half pipe coil design offers several clear advantages in terms of safety, heat transfer, rigidity, and corrosion resistance.

  • Vessel type and safety

    In half pipe coil jackets, the heating or cooling medium flows in a steady way, which makes them safer than conventional jackets. The design also helps the reactor stay more stable when working under pressure.

  • Heat transfer performance

    The heat exchange area of a half pipe coil is roughly one-third smaller than that of a conventional jacket, but because the medium flows two to three times faster, the overall heat transfer is much more efficient. Conventional jackets often have problems such as flow disturbance, short circuits, or uneven heat transfer. The half pipe coil design avoids these issues and works especially well with liquid heating and cooling media. For steam heating, though, conventional jackets can sometimes be a better option because of the way steam interacts with the grouped pipes.

  • Structural rigidity

    The design of the half pipe coil not only strengthens the vessel but also improves its stability. With an open-flow layout that allows high-speed circulation, it helps reduce external pressure on the inner wall of the reactor, resulting in greater overall mechanical strength.

  • Corrosion resistance

    When cooling water is used, conventional jackets are more likely to suffer corrosion from ions like H⁺ and Cl⁻, which can cause deposits to build up and damage the walls. The half pipe coil design avoids this problem thanks to its faster flow through the upper and lower channels, reducing the chance of buildup and protecting the walls from corrosion.

Open-top glass lined reactors consist of a few important parts: the vessel body, a removable cover, sealing gaskets, and clamps. Sealing gaskets are necessary to form a seal between the cover and the body, while the clamps hold them firmly together, so the reactor stays tightly closed and safe during operation.

How does the design pressure vary with different sealing methods?

The internal design pressure depends on the sealing method. With a packing seal, the vessel is rated for 0.2 MPa. With a mechanical seal, the design pressure can be 0.4 MPa or up to 1.0 MPa, depending on the configuration.
